St. Louis, Missouri - Weather Ready Fest 2018

Ginger Zee, ABC’s Good Morning America and ABC News’ chief meteorologist, and the 2nd runner-up from season 22 of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, appeared at WeatherReady Fest on August 25th, 2018.

Ginger interacted with kids participating in the "Young Meteorologist Program, along with James Spann and Owlie Skywarn, at the Saint Louis Science Center. Ginger also introduced her book, "Chasing Helicity." The book was inspired by Ginger's facination with the weather and science as a child. Ginger also pulled back the curtain on her life in her book, "Natural Disaster." Ginger opens up about her lifelong battle with crippling depression

I first met Ginger Zee through social media years ago when I saw her tweeting from a snow storm in Kansas City for ABC News. I direct messaged her to see if she could do something for us in the morning news at KMBC. She replyed. I got a chuckle out of the GMA media contact when I was the one informing them about Ginger's location. Ginger jumps on big weather stories and always seems to be at the right place at the right time for the biggest impact. When you consistently see that in a meteorologist, you know they have the passion and the smarts to be successful.

Disaster Response unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first resonders to reapidly deploy emergeny response teams.

I discovered this group at the weather ready fest in St. Louis today. I met Benjamin Blackwell who told me about this group started by General Stanley A. McChrystal USA (Ret.). The mission is to assist communities critically affected by disasters. It is an opportunity for veterans to find a renewed sense of purpose, community and identity while using their skills with Team Rubicon. Check it out https://teamrubiconusa.org/

Ben and I talked about all the bad news that we hear about, well it's always followed with the good news of humanitarian response. My experience from the OKC bombing to F-5 tornadoes, most recenlty Hurricane Harvey, the overwhelming response from around the world is positive. Most people want to help and this might be an organization you want to be part of, visit TeamRubiconUSA.org/join-the-team to find out more. You don't have to be a vet just be part of the good work they do! #teamwork
